This style got its name from the perfumer Fugues Royale by Hubigad and in no case should it be confused with fern (fugger in French) as an ingredient. Originally aimed at women, the Fugue fragrance, created in 1882, had top notes of lavender, oakmoss and the newly discovered coumarin. However, Fugger harmony quickly evolved into the main representative masculine style.
